“It's moving when you can make a difference with your illustrations.”
Mingliang “Ming” Sun is an illustrator and student at the FH Potsdam (University of Applied Sciences), where she studies communication design and came across this story in her illustration course. Her unique style impressed the entire course at the FH Potsdam. But drawing is not her only passion: “I love photography, playing the guitar, singing and reading books. I find inspiration while drinking tea, cooking, doing yoga or going for walks in nature.”
“I like drawing best when “The Three Question Marks” (a german audiobook) or an exciting podcast is playing in the background,” Ming also tells us. This is also how the illustrations for “Karl's Guard” were created. Inspired by the seriousness of the subject of hydrocephalus. “It's moving when you can make a difference with your illustrations. I knew nothing about hydrocephalus and living with this rare disease, and I learned a lot for myself,” says Ming.
Still in the middle of her studies, “Karl's Guard” is Ming's first project of this kind. She has breathed new life into the protagonists Merle, Karl and Anton and visibly painted their character traits on their faces. Ming's style is as light as it is serious, as colorful as it is cheerful and yet very lively in every stroke. It's great when you can draw like that!
