CATHETER

For Shunting of cerebrospinal fluid

(CSF)

MIETHKE Catheter

MIETHKE catheters for the treatment of hydrocephalus are designed for shunting of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

Our catheters are made of silicone and also contain barium sulfate. The barium sulfate content allows the catheters to be clearly visible in X-ray images. Magnetic resonance examinations up to a field strength of 3 Tesla or computed tomographic examinations can be performed without interference. All MIETHKE catheters are MR safe; in combination with deflectors, reservoirs and prechambers, they are MRI conditional.

The ventricular catheter sits with its tip in the cerebral ventricles and drains the liquor (brain water) from the ventricles. The MIETHKE ventricular catheter has a inner diameter of 1.2 mm and an outer diameter of 2.5 mm.

For safe placement of the ventricular catheter, it is provided with markings in the range of 3 to 13 cm, as seen from the tip.

By means of a mandrin that reaches up to the tip of the catheter, all MIETHKE ventricular catheters can be easily and safely advanced into the ventricles without kinking during implantation.

The drainage openings at the catheter tip for the drainage of the cerebral water start already 3 mm from the tip and end after 14 mm.

2. Introducing stylet / mandrin
3. Burrhole

Due to its special design, the THOMALE CATHETER is preferably suitable for use with narrow ventricles. The THOMALE CATHETER has a inner diameter of 1.2 mm and an outer diameter of 2.5 mm.

This special ventricular catheter is characterized by six inflow holes particularly close to the catheter tip.

The Lumbar Catheter is used to shunt CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) from the lumbar subarachnoid space. The Lumbar Catheter has a inner diameter of 0.8 mm and an outer diameter of 1.6 mm.

For safe placement, the labeling of the lumbar catheter is matched to the length of the Tuohy cannula. There are number markings on the lumbar catheter after every 5 cm up to a length of 65 cm distance from the exit of the tip of the Tuohy cannula.

The MIETHKE lumbar catheter is available in two versions:

Lumbar Catheter with open tip:

a. Silicone catheter
b. Drainage hole

Lumbar Catheter with closed tip (with enclosed Guide wire):
The closed lumbar catheter can be inserted using the enclosed guide wire. The guide wire enables better maneuvering of the catheter. The guide wire has an outer diameter of 0.46 mm.

a. Silicone catheter
b. Guide wire
c. Drainage hole

The Peritoneal Catheter drains Liquor (CSF) from the valve into the abdominal cavity. The Peritoneal Catheter has a inner diameter of 1.2 mm and an outer diameter of 2.5 mm.

The MIETHKE Peritoneal Catheter is available in lengths of 60 cm, 90 cm, and 120 cm.
